Gladman and Stoford - Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield, Warwickshire
Commercial challenge
After winning a competitive proposal process, Gough was appointed to consult the local community in Wellesbourne on plans to secure the long-term future of Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield.
The challenge included unveiling plans for 10,000 sq m of industrial and logistics space alongside a new runway and enhanced airfield facilities.
Human approach
With historical residential-led planning applications having been unsuccessful at the site, and sensitivities around existing neighbours and local roads, Gough delivered a full-scale public consultation including a 2-day public exhibition at the local village hall.
By being present with the development team, we were collectively able to discuss concerns and address issues directly with the community, helping to generate support for the pans and mitigate opposition.
We created a space for political stakeholders and the general public to take their time to learn about the plan and discuss all aspects at their leisure, with all information also available online for anybody unable to attend. A freephone and project email address were also launched to ensure open channels of communication.
Results
The consultation was thorough, wide-reaching and highly accessible, and enabled the subsequent submission of a detailed planning application.
· Arranged stakeholder meetings and events so client team could ‘walk in and begin’
· Satisfied all planning officer requirements for consultation and political engagement
· Mitigated opposition by promoting key benefits and addressing local concern
· Generated additional support from specialist interest groups (aviation) using targeted social media advertising
